End-to-end encrypted
Locked on your device, and opened only on theirs.
What you send in a chat is locked on your device before it leaves, and only the devices of the people in the chat can open it. That covers messages, photos, videos, voice notes, files, stickers, locations, polls, reactions, statuses and calls.
Each device has its own keys, and its private key never leaves it. Our server only passes on sealed envelopes it can't open, and deletes them once every device has collected them. Photos and files are deleted from it after 7 days at the latest.
You can check it yourself. Every chat has a security code (chat menu, Security code): if it's the same on everyone's phone, nobody is listening in the middle.
Posts in public channels (anyone can read them, like a website) and what you send to the optional AI assistant aren't end-to-end encrypted. What our server can and can't see is in our privacy policy, and the technical details are on our Security page.
