Community guidelines

Hushpiper is for private conversations. Privacy only works if people don't use it to hurt others, so these rules apply to everything on Hushpiper: chats, groups, calls, statuses, profiles and channels.

Never allowed

• Child sexual abuse or exploitation of any kind, including images, links, "grooming" or sexualising children. We ban these accounts permanently and report them to the National Crime Agency and other authorities as the law requires.
• Terrorism and violent extremism: promoting, supporting or organising terrorist acts or groups.
• Threats and incitement: threatening violence, or encouraging others to hurt someone.
• Sharing intimate images without consent, or threatening to.
• Encouraging suicide or self-harm.
• Fraud and scams, including fake giveaways, investment scams, impersonating companies or officials, and phishing.
• Selling illegal goods or services, such as drugs, weapons or stolen data.
• Malware and hacking: sending harmful software, or trying to break into accounts, devices or our service.

Treat people well

• No harassment or bullying. Don't keep contacting someone who has blocked you or asked you to stop, including from new accounts.
• No hate. Don't attack people for their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation or other protected characteristic.
• Respect privacy. Don't share someone's private information, photos or messages to harm them, and don't try to get around a chat's settings (for example, by photographing a screen that blocks screenshots to shame someone).
• Be honest about who you are. Don't pretend to be another person or organisation. Parody and fan accounts must say so.

Channels

Public channels can be seen by anyone, so they have extra rules:

• No spam, misleading content or copying other people's work without permission.
• Mark graphic or adult content clearly; don't share sexual content in public channels.
• Channel owners and admins are responsible for what their channel posts and should remove posts that break these rules.
• A public channel is hidden from the directory when enough people report it, while we review it.

Spam

Don't send bulk messages people didn't ask for, add people to groups they didn't agree to join, or use automated accounts without our permission.

If something is wrong

• Block anyone you don't want to hear from.
• Report a person, chat, message or channel from the app. You choose which messages to include, so we can see what happened.
• If someone is in danger, contact the emergency services straight away.

What we do

Depending on how serious it is, we may remove content we can see, hide a channel, limit features, or suspend or ban an account. If we act against your account, you can appeal from the app, and a person will review it.
