Child safety standards

Hushpiper, made by Hushpiper Ltd, has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). This page sets out our standards and what we do. It applies to everything on Hushpiper: chats, groups, calls, statuses, profiles and channels.

What is never allowed

• Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) of any kind, including drawn, generated or edited images, and links to it.
• Grooming: contacting a child to build trust for sexual purposes, asking a child for images, or arranging to meet a child for sexual purposes.
• Sexualising children in words, pictures or role play.
• Sextortion: threatening to share intimate images of a young person, or pressuring them for more.
• Trafficking or advertising children for sexual purposes.
• Helping anyone do any of these, including sharing tips or trading access.

How to report

• In the app: open the chat or profile, choose Report, pick "Child safety", and include the messages that show the problem. Child safety reports go to the top of our moderators' queue. You can also block the person.
• By email: abuse@hushpiper.com
• If a child is in immediate danger, call the emergency services (999 in the UK) first. In the UK you can also report to the National Crime Agency's CEOP service at ceop.police.uk, and report images or videos to the Internet Watch Foundation at report.iwf.org.uk.

What we do

• Our messages are end-to-end encrypted, so we can't scan private chats. We act on what is reported to us and on what we can see: profiles, public channels, and the account information we hold.
• We review every child safety report as a priority.
• When we find CSAE, we remove what we can, ban the account permanently, and work to stop the person coming back.
• We report CSAM and CSAE to the National Crime Agency, and to other authorities such as NCMEC where the law requires, and we preserve the information we hold when the law allows or requires it.
• We cooperate with law enforcement requests made through the proper legal process. We can only provide what we have, which never includes the contents of encrypted messages.

Protecting young people on Hushpiper

• You must be at least 13 years old to use Hushpiper. We ask the year you were born when you sign up.
• Under 18s: people you don't know can't find you by username or phone number, message you, add you to groups or ask you to be their trusted contact. To them your account looks like it doesn't exist. Being in the same group doesn't count as knowing you. Your contact link and invite links still work, because you choose who gets them, and a new chat through them arrives as a request you can decline.
• Nobody can find you by phone number unless you switch that on, and a contact PIN can stop strangers messaging you at all.
• Anyone can be blocked, and blocked people can't message or call you.
• Public channels must not contain sexual content.
