Big files
Send files up to 200 MB straight away. Anything bigger goes in the background, device to device, and never touches our server. Either way, it's end-to-end encrypted.
- Up to 200 MB: sent like any photo or file. It's sealed on your device and passed on by our server, which can't open it and deletes it once it's delivered (after 7 days at the latest).
- Over 200 MB: it goes straight from device to device and never touches our server, not even our relay. In a group, everyone who already has part of the file passes it on too.
- In the background: it moves piece by piece while both devices are online. If either of you goes offline, it carries on where it stopped.
- Checked piece by piece: the message carries a fingerprint of every piece, so a piece only counts if it matches.
Files over 200 MB need the Android or Windows app at both ends: the browser can't hold files that big.
