Calls and group calls

Voice and video calls are end-to-end encrypted, one to one or in a group, with up to 8 people on video and 32 on voice.

• Calls go directly between devices where they can. When they can't, our relay or media server passes on encrypted audio and video it can't decode, and group calls on the media server get a second layer of encryption with a key only the people on the call have.
• We don't record calls or keep what's said.
• Share your screen in a one-to-one video call, on Android and Windows.
• On Android, a video call keeps going in a small window when you leave the app.

Each chat's privacy rules also say whether a call may be recorded on someone's phone, and whether the others are told.
